Get the facts about Atlanta Tech aircraft design, registering for degree programs, and taking tests for free online. Engineering is one of the fastest-growing employment areas, for several strong reasons. As technical progress permeates industrial processes in manufacturing, food technology and agriculture, engineers are increasingly in demand. If you complete the aviation technology program, for example, there are a variety of concentrations that may appeal to you such as aerospace engineering, flight control systems, or aircraft design. Further, due to advances in aviation technology, there is a growing shortage of aircraft design graduates, and of skilled engineering technicians in general. Please use the form above to request admissions info for Atlanta Tech.

Aerospace engineers may design aircraft, space vehicles, satellites, and missile systems. In addition, they test prototypes to make sure that they function according to design. Aerospace engineers are employed in the design and building of commercial aircraft, aviation technology systems, and spaceships. In addition, aerospace engineers that work on aircraft design projects for the military will need a security clearance.

Aerospace operations technicians and mechanics, on the other hand, need only an associates degree to begin earning a good salary. They operate and maintain equipment used in developing, testing, and producing new aircraft designs. Increasingly, these workers must be able to use computer-based modeling (CAD) and simulation tools in their work. Aviation technology certification is offered by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). In fact, SpaceTEC, the National Science Foundation Center for Aerospace Technical Education, coordinates a nationwide program through community and technical colleges to help students prepare for aviation tech certification. The median annual wage for aerospace engineers working in aircraft design with a bachelors degree was $107,830, while aircraft technicians and mechanics holding an associate's degree earned $66,180, as of May 2015.

Automotive Engineering

Here are some basic tips from a diesel mechanic on how to check the condition of an automobile. Does the car start right up when you turn the ignition key? If not, the electrolyte solution in the battery acid may be low, or there may be an electrical short in the charging system. To test brake systems, just tap the brakes at high speed, and see if there's any noise or a spongy feel to the brake pedal, which indicates either air in the brake lines, or decomposition in brake fluid viscosity.

Testing the cylinder compression of either the diesel or gasoline engine is simple as well. Just find a hill, and try to accelerate up it from a standing start, noting any black smoke or backfire noise that results from incorrect ignition timing, valve wear, or pinston ring problems within the engine itself. How does the car shift through the gears? Is it smooth, or do you feel a clunk as it shifts, which may signal transmission repair is not too far removed.

Engineering Job Listings

The Fundamentals of Engineering exam should be taken immediately after earning a bachelors degree from an ABET-accredited program. Engineers who pass this exam are called engineers in training (EIT), or engineer interns. After meeting work experience requirements, engineer interns can attempt a second certifying exam, called the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam. Thereafter, acquisition of a professional engineering license enables management of junior engineers, the ability to sign off on engineering projects, and provide services directly to the public. Wages vary by employer and location. Aside from salary, most engineering jobs include excellent benefits, as well as retirement plans.
